Picture
“Ever since the beginning of time, man has yearned to travel to a distant land far away, ever since the beginning of time, something seems to call him and it seems to say don’t be late”
-Leon Thomas, Pharaohs Tune (The Journey)

Abroad and Abound is a site specific installation that unpacks nomadic memories and embraces the abundance of returning home.

Amir George is a filmmaker and curator, based in Chicago. George is a programmer at True/False Film Fest and cofounder of  Black Radical Imagination with Curator Erin Christovale. As an artist, George creates spiritual stories, juxtaposing sound and image into an experience of non-linear perception. George’s films have screened at institutions and film festivals including Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, Anthology Film Archives, Glasgow School of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Trinidad and Tobago International Film Festival, BlackStar Film Festival, Afrikana Film Festival, and Chicago Underground Film Festival, among others.

About Whispering into the Void:
There is always a void to be filled in the black cinematic continuum. An aesthetic emptiness that beacons expression. Black film practitioners create experiments that expand within the void. These experiments are like whispers speaking to the now, the past, and the future. Found footage that is rethought and reordered to create something soulful and mind-bendingly visceral.
Whispering Into The Void is a short film program comprised of black film artists curiously navigating the void while frequently expanding within it.
