Special performance & reception with Hanna Benn
Thursday, October 17, 2019
6:30pm-8pm
Free

In 2015, visual artist C. Davida Ingram began a collaboration with composer Hanna Benn called “The Deeps” that combined live narration and music as a tapestry to understand grieving. This next chapter of the story moves through a reimagining of the waters of memory and how we connect in moments of joy and transformation through lyricism and stories. Audience members are encouraged to come dressed in shades of blue for this immersive installation. The performance will be filmed in its entirety.

C. Davida Ingram is an award-winning artist and civic leader born in Chicago and based in Seattle, Washington. Her artwork, curatorial projects, and writing all discuss race and gender via lens-based media, social practice, performance art, lyrical essay and installation art. Ingram has exhibited at the Frye Art Museum, Northwest African American Museum, Bridge Productions, Intiman Theater, Town Hall in Seattle, Evergreen College and more. Her writing has appeared in Arcade, Ms. Magazine blog, The James Franco Review, and The Stranger.
The Deeps & Unknown Senders
September 28 to Oct 12th

Join artist C. Davida Ingram on a multi-sensory journey about healing at Wa Na Wari. This exhibit is both a return to the performance installation entitled “The Deeps” with composer Hanna Benn, and an exploration of how survivors heal in “Unknown Senders.” Along the way, Ingram delves into Black feminism, sexuality, autobiography, politics, and how freedom dreams meet myth, poetry, and radical imagination. This project is made possible with support from the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture and 4 Culture.
