Chi Moscou Jackson
Moscou Jackson is a master collage artist. With obvious influences from Romare Bearden and Joseph Cornell, Moscou Jackson’s vernacular is weighted in the repurposing of National Geographic magazines to create surreal cityscapes that ask us to imagine a new world. Collage at its core is re-appropriating images for one’s personal message; visual and political. National Geographic magazines, while informative, have always been associated with a colonization agenda, dropping into cultures and reporting on them from the white gaze. Moscou Jackson takes these images, mostly taken by white photographers, and changes the power dynamic between the viewer and viewed.
